MARCH NEWS

At last Spring has arrived - we've even had a couple of days of warm sunshine. Our next meeting will brighten us up some more with Jan's talk about fabrics from Ghana - full details on the poster below.

The postcards for the Olympic project looked fantastic. Thank you to all those who contributed and special thanks to Ann for assembling them. For those who missed the February meeting they will be displayed in the Gallery.

We are also looking forward to seeing the flower brooches made by members and guests at our last workshop.
Watch out for pictures of these on the Gallery page.

February Activities

Something different for our February Meeting. How about trying on some corsets to see what ladies in the past had to put up with?

After Jill showed us her work last month, she is running a workshop for us. Using the techniques she developed in her ruff making lucky members will make at least one little brooch.
Contact Joy for more details and booking: philandjoy@waitrose.com

JANUARY MEETING

Who would have thought that a fascination with Elizabethan ruffs would lead to such innovative work?
Have a look at Jill's website - www.jillflower.com - to see more of her work and don't forget her workshop on 25th February.

Happy New Year

All those preparations for Christmas and it is over in a flash! However there are lots of good things to look forward to in 2012, not least our branch's exciting programme.
To start off, at our first meeting Jill Flower, 'The Ruff Lady', will share her unusual paper and stitch technique and there will be the chance of making a brooch with Jill at our first workshop in February.

A brief look back to 2011 to congratulate Anne, Jan and the rest of the Zeronine group on their fantastic exhibition 'Threads Acoss Time' at the Andover Museum. If you didn't get there - you missed a real treat.

Christmas Social next Monday 12th

Our last meeting in 2011 is the Christmas Social. As in previous years there will be a practical project with a Christmas theme. All the materials will be provided but please bring £1 to cover these. Also a sewing kit - needles, scissors etc.
Please bring a plate of food for the refreshment table. Drinks will be available, including non-alchoholic mulled 'wine' to get us into the Christmas spirit.
If you wish to take part in the 'Secret Santa' wrap up a present costing around £3 to put in the box. You never know what lovely goody you may receive!
Hope to see you there - it's a good chatty informal evening.
Best wishes for a Happy Christmas and New Year.

Exciting things coming up!

Thanks to everyone who renewed their membership and a gentle reminder to those who haven't, that subs are due. The AGM was a great success with new members volunteering for the committee. Jan gave us a fascinating glimpse of the first year of her degree course with examples of her work inspired by her visits to Botswana. Other members brought along their current projects - an amazing array of talent.

There is a great programme of events coming up, starting with Margaret's talk at the November meeting. There will be an opportunity for novices with the soldering iron to 'have-a-go' in preparation for the workshop in April next year. Details of the Christmas Social will be available.

Eleanor is leading the November workshop following on from the machine embroidery practice in September. (pictures below) There are still spaces and you don't have to have attended the previous one. Joy has all the details.
